In the world of music the Viennese horn is known for its particularly colorful tone. In modern orchestral practice, however, it is a rarity – only very few European orchestras still use it (e.g. the Vienna Philharmonic). It is regarded as a very difficult instrument to play, but the sound contains a greater number of harmonics and therefore has a brighter sound when compared directly to the double horn. As an alternative, the Vienna Symphonic Library also offers the triple horn.

Sample Content:

SHORT + LONG NOTES: Staccato / Portato short / Sustained with and without vibrato / Portato short, soft attack / Portato medium, normal and soft attack / Portato long, with and without vibrato, marcato, and blared / Sustained, blared

DYNAMICS: pfp without vibrato, 6 (var. 1) and 8 sec / Fortepiano and sforzato / Light dynamics without vibrato, 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4, 6 sec / Medium dynamics with vibrato, 4 and 6 sec.; without vibrato, 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4, 6 sec / Strong dynamics without vibrato, 2, 3, 4, 6 sec / pfp without vibrato, 6 (var. 2) and 8 sec / Sforzatissimo

FLATTER + TRILLS: Flutter tonguing normal and crescendo / Trills, minor and major 2nd / Lip trills

STOPPED: Staccato / Portato medium and long / Sustained/ Dynamics, 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4, 6 sec / Fortepiano, sforzato, and sforzatissimo

PERF INTERVAL: Legato without vibrato, normal and with sustain crossfading / Legato with vibrato, sustain crossfading / Marcato

PERF INTERVAL FAST: Legato / Marcato

PERF TRILL: Trills, legato, minor to major 2nd

PERF REPETITION: Legato medium / Portato / Staccato fast / Legato slow and fast / Staccato slow

FAST REPETITION: Staccato, 9 repetitions, 150, 170, 190 BPM / Staccato, 9 repetitions, 140, 160, 180 BPM / Dynamics for all repetitions

UPBEAT REPETITION: 1 upbeat, 90–140, 160, and 180 BPM / 2 and 3 upbeats, 90–140, 160, 180, and 200 BPM

GRACE NOTES: Grace notes / Minor and major 2nd / Up and down

GLISSANDI: Performance glissandos, minor 3rd to octave, fast, up and down; slow, up / Fixed glissandos, 4th to octave, slow, up and down; fast, up

System Requirements:

PC Windows 7/8/10 (latest update, 32/64-bit), Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon 64 X2

Mac OS X 10.8 (latest update) or higher, Intel Core 2 Duo

2 GB RAM (4 GB recommended)

VIENNA KEY (Vienna Symphonic Library USB protection device) or other USB eLicenser (e.g., from Steinberg or Arturia)

1.4 GB free hard drive space for the Standard Library, 1.4 GB for the Full Library

Recommended:

Windows 7/8/10 (latest update, 64-bit), Intel i5/i7/Xeon

Mac OS X 10.9 (or higher), Intel i5/i7/Xeon

4 GB RAM

SSD or fast separate hard drive (7200 rpm or faster)

AU/VST/AAX Native/RTAS compatible host (also works stand-alone)

RTAS version requires Pro Tools 7.3 or higher

AAX version requires Pro Tools 10.3.5 or higher

88 key master keyboard

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0658/8848/5479/files/vienna-viennese-horn-1_3018ce09-74eb-4852-a56c-b2fc92a74415.jpg?v=1787091390
