Product Description
The TipTop Audio Buchla 277t Signal Delay Unit brings the 277 Signal Delay Unit to Eurorack. The original 277 came out in 1972 and was one of the first digital delay lines. It passed audio through clocked shift registers, and the clock speed set the delay time. The 277t keeps that design in a 16HP, 32mm deep module. It isn’t a ready-made delay effect. It’s a building block for patching your own delays, echoes, flanging and pitch-shifting effects.
FOUR TAPS AND A BUILT-IN MIXER
The Main Rate control sets the clock speed, which sets the delay time. Four tap outputs give you the delayed signal at 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and the full delay time, so you can create rhythmic echoes and multi-tap patterns. A built-in 3-channel mixer with an attenuator on each channel handles routing. Channel A takes the incoming signal, and channel B is set up for feedback: patch a tap output back into it and raise the level slowly to build repeats.
MODULATION AND RANGE
A CV input with an attenuverter lets you modulate the delay time from function generators, envelopes or LFOs. A dedicated audio input with its own attenuator lets you frequency-modulate the delay time for anything from chorus-like movement to metallic, warped textures. A range switch chooses between the original short delay times and longer settings. An overload LED warns you when the input is driving the circuit too hard.
A CENTERPIECE FOR EXPERIMENTAL PATCHING
The 277t rewards experimentation. Put filters, waveshapers or other processors in the feedback path to shape each repeat, or modulate the clock speed for pitch-shifting effects. You can pair it with a VCO for a sound source, a function generator for modulation and an external mixer for monitoring. It draws 112 mA on +12V and 15 mA on -12V.
BUCHLA & TIPTOP AUDIO 200 SERIES
Welcome to the Buchla & Tiptop Audio 200 series project. In this project Buchla has teamed up with Tiptop Audio to resume the production of Don Buchla’s 200 series and convert it to Eurorack standards. These extremely rare pieces of equipment made almost half a century ago are once again available, and this time to a wide audience.
