The Secret To Jimmy Page's Tone
Whether it's his work as a session musician with The Who or his signature sound in Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page’s tone is one of the most copied from throughout guitar history. To the discerning ear, his tone might sound like something that comes courtesy of a screaming stack of face-melting speakers. Yet for much of his recorded output, Page relied on smaller amps from the likes of Supro, which he used for the making of Led Zeppelin. Supro has brought the Jimmy Page design out of retirement to give you the sound of his well-oiled bluesy, rock ‘n’ roll machine.
The Makeup Of A Legend
Starting from the exact dimensions of the 2x10 cabinet of Page’s 1959 model, the 1695T Black Magick is a 25-watt combo amp, packed with a custom, British-voiced speaker, specifically created for this new model from Supro. The amp features a cathode-biased “Class-A” power section, powered by two 6973 tubes, which gives the 1695T Black Magick a distinct crunch. By utilizing your guitar’s volume control, you can dial in a wide range of tones from warm, jazzy chords to searing distortion that brings to mind Jimmy’s explosive playing.
Essential Options For Powerful Sounds
The Supro 1695 Black Magick’s preamp features four 12AX7EH tubes and two channels wired in parallel. Offering independent volume controls and a single tone control, the Black Magick opens up a plethora of options for users, whether it’s doubling up on their gain, channel switching on the fly or plugging in two instruments into the amp.
