sE have taken the sE5's predecessor, the sE4, and redesigned it from the capsule right through to the XLR connector. The sE5 sets the new standard for small diaphragm microphones at its price, and is perfect for any use - studio or live. With an even smoother full-range frequency response and improved transient handling, it is the perfect choice for recording drums, percussion, pianos and any stringed acoustic instrument.
As a stereo pair, the capsules are factory-matched for perfect tolerance, guaranteeing the best possible stereo image. This configuration also includes a precision stereo mounting bar, and the whole setup comes packaged inside a secure flight case that's ready for the road.
CUSTOM CAPSULE
The sE5's cardioid polar pattern delivers a clean and smooth on-axis response, with off-axis rejection that's essential when recording the source instrument in-situ among unwanted noise sources such as other instruments or room ambience.
100 Hz BASS CUT FILTER
The sE5's 100 Hz bass cut can be applied to decrease the level of proximity effect, which is typical behavior in cardioid pattern microphones if placed very close to the sound source, or to isolate from low frequency rumble from other sources.
-10 dB / -20 dB PAD
The two pad switches can be used if you're recording a very ‘hot’ (loud) signal. For miking up loud sound sources such as drums or a guitar cabinet, the -10 dB or -20 dB settings will reduce the level output from the microphone to the connected microphone preamp, ensuring a high quality signal is delivered.

The sE Electronics X1 D is a dedicated drum microphone, bringing the renowned quality of the sE X1 series to a microphone designed for use on kick drums and percussion.
The sE X1 D is the first microphone in the sE X1 series to be made specifically for instruments. It features a handcrafted, Titanium-sputtered capsule that is stiffer than the gold-sputtered capsules used on some of their other mics. This translates to a quicker transient response, which is important when recording instruments that create fast transients and attack like drums and percussion, as it enables the microphone to maintain clarity and deliver exceptional performance in accurately capturing the sound source.
The sE X1 D is also well suited to recording the hammer action of a piano and a bass, where the strings are often played with percussive techniques. The microphone offers a cardioid polar pattern with great off-axis rejection, which is essential when recording only one element of a drum kit without wanting the sound of other elements to bleed into the signal.
On board the sE X1 D is a -10 dB pad and a bass cut. The mic is constructed with integrated shock protection in the form of a built-in rubber capsule mount, which helps to isolate the capsule from knocks and vibrations. The microphone is fitted with a side-mounted stand adapter for quick and easy attachment to a microphone stand, and it comes with a soft protective pouch.
