Product Description
The Pinnacle Microphone Fat Top II Active/Passive is a short ribbon microphone that delivers a warm, rich, fat, rounded tone. It featured active and passive functionality - a unique feature allows the user to have the option to switch between either mode with a simple flick of an internal switch. The Active mode requires phantom power and will add up to 20 db of gain (this opens up the option to use this microphone with a wide range of preamps). The use of a very low noise differential amplifier circuit provides high gain while keeping the noise level low. The circuit has been optimized to preserve the warm, open, detailed tone of the ribbon mic by choosing operating conditions and electronic components that minimize tonal alterations. The active devices in the mic are factory matched for minimum distortion.
The bi-directional polar pattern picks up sound essentially equally from both faces with a large null between faces ideal for isolating sound sources. Best suited for guitar cabinets, piano, brass and percussion instruments. Can be used in pairs in a Blumlein set up to pick up the entire room. Fat Top II comes standardly fitted with the upgraded Lundahl LL2913 transformer. Introducing the upgraded Lundahl to the already quality hardware makes for an extended frequency range. This gives the mic improved definition, lower floor and higher ceiling.
