Product Description
The Kali Audio IN-8 is a powered 3-way monitor featuring the powerful 8” woofer from the LP-8 series paired with a coaxial tweeter and midrange combo. The added midrange behaves like a waveguide for the tweeter, which lessens distortion and heightens clarity. Its hyper-realistic soundstage makes it a suitable monitoring system for making critical decisions that translate clearly across multiple playback systems.
Imaging
The IN-8 monitors produce a wealth of spatial information that isn’t perceivable on standard 2-way monitors. Monitors built using separated tweeters and woofers typically lack the ability to produce a full stereo image; however, the IN-8’s tweeter and midrange share the same space, thereby lessening the distance between the woofer and the midrange. The unique relationship forms an acoustic point source. The soundstage that you experience will have every detail that’s present in the mix.
Clarity
Much of the stellar performance of the IN-8 results from the tweeter and midrange occupying the same space. This feature lessens the amount of work required from each. By unburdening the tweeter and woofer, the IN-8’s total harmonic distortion is at an exceptionally low 1.4%. The midrange also acts as a waveguide for the tweeter, which is why the shape is precisely engineered to provide an ideal dispersion characteristic for the tweeter.
As a waveguide, the midrange is also designed to remain still during playback. This is accomplished by keeping its peak excursion limited to 1mm.
Ease of Use
As most know, the placement of studio monitors can drastically alter the frequency response. To aid proper placement, Kali’s team organized a set of compensation EQ settings pictured on the back panel. Using these recommended settings and HP / LP trims, the speakers will sound great regardless of room style or speaker placement.
The IN-8 features balanced XLR and TRS inputs, and an unbalanced RCA input. The RCA input can be set to -10 dBu sensitivity when you’re using consumer devices like a laptop or smartphone’s headphone jack.
