Product Description

The IK Multimedia Pianoverse Black Diamond B280 is based on a Bösendorfer 280 Vienna Concert, also known as the Concert Grand 280VC. With a timbre all its own, Black Diamond B280 can easily convey darker moods while conserving the warm musicality for which the Austrian capital is celebrated.

The Bösendorfer 280 Vienna Concert grand piano is a large, 9' concert grand piano that was first introduced in 1828 and has been used by many of the world's leading pianists, including Artur Rubinstein, Vladimir Horowitz and Martha Argerich.

Offering a broad tonal spectrum, easier playability and wide dynamics, without neglecting the richness of partial notes, it’s a truly remarkable and desirable instrument. It’s also the piano of choice for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra with a “Viennese” sound that can now be yours in the Black Diamond B280.

Like the Concert Grand YF3, IK used DPA microphones for the close miking and Schoeps mics for medium-distanced coincident pair to record this spectacular piano at the legendary Fonoprint Studios in Bologna, Italy, within the walls of a 15th century convent.

In addition to our many IK sample sessions over the years, Fonoprint has hosted the very best Italian and international artists from Ennio Morricone to Luciano Pavarotti to Andrea Bocelli.

BREATHTAKING PIANO REALISM MEETS LIMITLESS CREATIVITY

Pianoverse combines the world’s finest concert-grade pianos with inspiring, cinematic effects to create an incredibly versatile piano instrument that can excel in any situation where a world-class piano sound is needed, from classical concerts to blockbuster movie soundtracks to live jazz performances.

Pianoverse offers the perfect piano sound for any genre, with superior results in every situation. IK’s team spent months sourcing treasured piano instruments from the most prestigious manufacturers including Yamaha, Steinway, Bösendorfer, Fazioli and more. Each instrument was brought to one of Italy’s finest studios, hand-tuned and prepared, then sampled using multiple microphone setups and IK’s unique custom-built robotic system that allowed a degree of velocity measurement, sampling precision and repeatability that simply cannot be matched with traditional sampling workflows.
