Product Description
AEA's The Ultimate Stereo Kit (or T.U.S.K.) from AEA combines the best-selling R88 mk2 stereo ribbon microphone with the TRP2 preamp for everything you need to capture world-class stereo recordings.
AEA R88 MK2 RIBBON MIC
The AEA R88 mk2 is a stereo ribbon microphone featuring two capsules fixed in a Blumlein or mid/side configuration, making it ideal for everything from orchestras and choirs to woodwinds and horns or even drums.
With the same large ribbon configuration as the classic RCA 44 series mics, the R88 features an extended bass response all the way down to 20 Hz and a silky-smooth high-end—even at a distance. R88 is equipped with high-quality passive electronics to ensure a large dynamic range with minimal distortion.
Equipped with two figure-8 ribbons angled at 90 degrees to each other in Blumlein configuration, the R88 delivers remarkably open and natural stereo recordings with a uniform polar frequency response and excellent off-axis frequency response.
The R88 sounds best when paired with a preamp that has at least 60 dB of clean gain, a low noise floor (-127 dB EIN or better) and input impedance of at least 1.5 kOhm—that’s why T.U.S.K. comes bundled with the TRP2 preamp.
FEATURES:
- Features two Big Ribbons in a fixed Blumlein and mid-side configuration
- Astonishingly open and natural sound
- Far-field ribbon mic designed to retain low end and top end at a distance
- Passive, stereo version of the Active, Mono N8
TRP2 PREAMP
The AEA TRP2 preamp is designed exclusively for ribbon microphones like the R88. Optimized for ribbon mics, low-output mics, and vintage mics, the TRP2 features 63 kOhm high-impedance circuitry for improved transients, frequency response, and higher output sensitivity. With up to 85 dB of output, the TRP2 delivers more gain than almost any other preamp on the market.
The TRP2 also features a a phantom power switch for AEA’s many phantom-powered ribbon mics. Don’t panic! There’s also a “No Blow Switch” to prevent unwanted phantom power from hitting your passive ribbon mics.
FEATURES:
- Two channels with 85 dB of sweet and quiet JFET gain
- Switchable phantom-power, polarity reverse, and high-pass filter
- 63 kOhm high-impedance circuitry, providing better overall transients, frequency response, and higher output sensitivity
- Optimized for ribbon mics, low-output mics, and vintage mics
- Switching power supply for easy use in any country
TUSK ACCESSORIES
Both the R88 and TRP2 come in a studio-tested hardshell storage case to keep them safe, along with a swivel adapter, a custom protective mic sleeve and a copy of The New Stereo Soundbook. Co-authored by Ron Streicher and F. Alton Everest, this book is the definitive guide to stereo recording.
